I'm Gwen. I'm a mutant. Not that anyone knows, 'cept my family anyway. They're mutants too. My brother, Jonah, can change into a big dog, which is okay. But can he fly? I don't think so. My mum, she's lucky. Really lucky. And m'dad? He's about seven feet tall, has arms the size of great big tree trunks, can lift a car and not flinch. And me? I can change into things. All kinds of things. Yeah, you wouldn't be kidding if you called us freaks. But we're a family, even if not much of one nowadays. I sort of temporarily disowned them a few years ago. I was a real shit person back then. Got my degree from school and skipped off to travel the world. I ended up in New York City. Queens. I model occasionally, my face is one of those that photographers have wet dreams about, so I get treated like the product. It's not so bad. What I really love is performing. Any opportunity I get to play a role, no matter how small, I take up without asking. I suppose that's how I get into the sort of trouble I'm in now. I also teach dance at a community center in the city, and I help run an after school thing for kids. It's good work. I also help out in the record store, you know the one. Spin Me 'Round. I get to listen to music all day and talk to people. Leaves me the weekends free. I like to dance. What else could a girl want? Well. There is the boyfriend, the boring life, and the neverending closet space. But I don't have much time for any of those things. A double life? I wish it were that simple. Try a triple life. I work for a man named Tony. Those who know New York's underground mob scene know him as Big Tony. He knows who I am and what I do. Promise not to tell? You know that group that protests the MRA? You've seen Owen, in front of the Barnes & Noble in Morningside, haven't you? Or how about Cate down in front of the 7-11? There's six of them. Only there isn't. Because, well, because they're me. Remember, you promised. Anyway. He finds a client, someone with a shitload of cash, finds out what he wants, lets me know. I can be anything they want me to be. Red hair? Done. Blonde? Easy. I've done it all, and for good money. And yeah, once I'm auctioned off for the night whatever big spender won me gets his way. But it pays the bills. And baby, I've got bills. Besides, I'm the queen of the mob, and it's fucking fantastic.
